I have been in search for some healthy snack recipes to help keep away the hunger in the early afternoon and keep me satisfied until dinner. I also wanted something that was a great pick me up to make it through the rest of the day! With all of this in mind, it had to be healthy!

I was shown some awesome recipes from Ellie Krieger. One of her snacks for the day was maple glazed walnuts. The maple does a little extra and helps satisfy my extremely sweet teeth! Walnuts are also the only nut with the most amount of omega 3 fatty acids. These fats are essential for the body and most people need more of this type of fat.

To start, these are the ingredients you need:

2 cups walnut halves

1/3 cup maple syrup

1/8 teaspoon salt

Directions:

Preheat a dry skillet over a medium-high heat. Add the walnuts, maple syrup and salt. Cook, stirring frequently, until syrup is caramelized and nuts are toasted, about 3 minutes. Let cool.

These walnuts are absolutely delicious and declious for your body! You can view Ellie Krieger’s site on the Food Network Website. She has some awesome recipes that are all healthy for you!

Give it a try and have it as a snack! Let me know what you think!

Have you used any Ellie Krieger’s recipes?

What is the best way to start out summer?

Picking strawberries at a local farm! These red delicious berries are the best you will ever have grown right in your own neighborhood. How could you resist?

Today we went to the field and picked a ton of strawberries. The local farm charges about $1.15 a pound for them. They usually round down a bit on the pound so you are getting a pretty darn good deal! Today we picked just about 14 pounds of strawberries and a just a few more I already ate in the field while picking :)

What will we do with them? Eat them fresh of course! Also have them on cereal in the mornings, snack throughout the day, even a strawberry shortcake sounds really good too!

What is your favorite thing to do with fresh strawberries? Recipes?

Here is the flickr slideshow of the strawberry picking today!
